All Play Game_Test Page

Here is where the magic happens…this page is all about feedback, please post images and comments of your experience in “All Play” the game I’m designing for my BFA thesis. Feel free to be honest, it is essential to the design process, also as a tester you are allowed to edit every aspect of the game engine. This project is a learning process for both the player and designer.

Also you can access the developer’s site where the game program was downloaded and view the user feedback there as well:

Hello Liz can’t wait to test your game

i would like to be givin the option to move objects i have already placed in the space. i’m drawn to want to do that

  4. Anonymous says:

    Cheers, here is my screenshot

  5. Anonymous says:

the only issue that i had was clicking on the different icons was tough becuse some of them had very small clickable spaces

Guess what I made… hehehe… Funny… Need ball to respawn at the same place… Also, It crashes when right click.

There’s some physics issues and i would like to be able to rotate objects. Also, moving objects after they’ve been placed would be good. Help menu, etc etc, stuff we mentioned in class. check bounderies of where you can place items to contain it to the work area (i was placing fans on the menu buttons!) resize the screen or make the work area bigger.

Play/Pause design is enjoyable akin to playing with dominoes I enjoy setting up everything and then letting chaos ensue. I also like the ability to place objects on the fly as well without having to pause the game. Would be more enjoyable if there were other collision objects besides the square wall, such as on that was ramped or curved etc. Also would be nice to have the ability to rotate objects like fans and trampolines, as well as more of an indication on how the magnets are going to push or pull an object.

The screen caps are saving as a generic .file extention. They wont open as an image.

Thank you all for participating in one of the many test sessions of All Play, after yesterday’s comments I will re-approach the All Play experience make some changes according your feedback and have you test again! Remember what you feedback you guys give is as much a part of the design process as what I create.

since the balls are limited to the grid, i think that the placing of the objects should be limited to the grid too. they keep getting stuck in the menu bar. also whenever i put some to the objects into the already made games like the cupcakes, the ball doesn’t respond to it

  13. Myles says:

In Missing link the ball got stuck 😦 couldnt get past the first gap 😦
The brown box didnt work, ball just fell through
    Love the concept though 🙂

  14. Joe says:

When “deleting all objects” it gets rid of the main object as well, mainly the ball. Also when you grab and hold an object, to actually place it you could have the right click while holding left, because when you grab an modifier you don’t always want to place it.

  15. Joe says:

On Missing Link also when deleting all objects, it deletes the ones that you (the creator) already made. Making it so that it only deletes the ones we make would be helpful so that we don’t have to replace all the objects

I don’t play many games, so it took me several minutes to understand the mechanics of the trampoline. Although after playing several minutes I felt even special needs children could profit from playing this game because it develops critical thinking skills and a sense of accomplish. I believe this because there’s an interaction between ball and trampoline and getting to the cake. I found it interesting this interaction between the screen and use of the mouse just to get the cake. This use of a child’s motor skill is particularly interesting to me.

I don’t game often but the how to video were perfect to get me playing though I wish the ramps and other gadgets had been mentioned in that video. The problem solving aspect is really excellent. Maybe if the video played on it’s own before you begin playing I would have known what to look for . Thank you for letting me play it is definately fun lol

Hey Liz, this is Mika from Knut’s 3D Modeling class. I really like what is going on in your game so far. The spirit of creating new games and challanges from a set of flexible, simple tools is a great concept to base a game off of. Here are a few of my suggestions to help refine gameplay and flow:
-The ramps dont seem to live, the player ball passes right through them
-For the game designer levels, maybe you’d like to limit the use of magnet, since it’s usefulness overshadows all the other tools you created.
-You may want to consider per pixel collision for your objects, that way, when using such items as the magnet, conveyor belt, spinning blades, etc, there would be more room for refined menuevering of the ball.
-The ability to place cakes in the designer levels nullifies the point of actually getting the pre-placed cakes.
-I’m sure you already are aware, but the music cuts out when selecting options on the menu pages. Also, it might be a cool idea to have music in the levels that the player can toggle on or off.
-I really like the Lazer Razer game. Maybe limiting the amount of laser pens you can place would increase challenge and reward.
All of that aside, I really enjoy what’s happening here. It’s my firm belief that there’s always room for more user generated content in the gaming world. Have you ever played The Incredible Machine ? This game reminds me a lot of it.
I look forward to what you’ll create in the future!

Ok sos i never played a game before and Would really need to speand more time to be able to comment. But what you have thusd far is amazing!

  20. LeAnn says:

I’m not a super avid video game player, so I think my time using the game provides really great beginner feedback. Jump for the Cake was my favorite game b/c using the trampolines is a really great and simple way to become comfortable with the tools used in other games. I also liked the game with the laser, but felt like the instructions were too vague, and after several minutes I began to understand that I could add lasers to shoot through the obstacles, but after clearing those, I had difficulty getting my ball to move forward and there aren’t any instructions (that I found anyway) about that. I wasn’t sure what to do, and lost my patience. The first game, Maze, seems to me like a game you would want to learn how to play right before you get super adventerous and want to build your own in the Sandbox. It seems a little more advanced, and I feel like adding something in the tutorial about what each tool (as in every…single…one) does would be helpful. Also, I don’t think any information was given about what you should do to remove items (trampolines, lasers, etc.) once you have them placed in a game. That was a problem for me.

The Sandbox game is a great idea and something I could see people playing together with a group or maybe even families playing with their kids. If I were to purchase this type of game, I would love for it to have a supplemental piece about the physics of how/why some of these things work…and you could make it fun and throw in a signature recipe for cake.

    Nice work!

  21. teresa says:

Holy crap the magnet actually stays with the ball now! For those of you new to this game, that was a super annoying problem. A lot of progress on this game! Good work!

  22. Chris Ross says:

Hey Lizzy Liz, this game is quite challenging. I really like the sandbox idea for this game to create my own map, every time I create a new map it gets better and better so the game is also very easy to pick up. The challenge is the best part because it’s easy to get the hang of the system yet challenging to get to goal. This is a really good quality for a game. I would work on the direction of the trampoline bounces though. I would also like to see more pre generated maps if you ever have the time. I can’t wait to see how this game expands : )
